Thesis – 8/30/2013

This morning I found a made myself spend a bit of time on my thesis, I’m still working on concepting the armor and I go back and forth between shapes, fluidity, and how practical pieces are. Eventually it will all flow together and hopefully look really, really bad ass. Here’s where I got this morning.

I haven’t posted in a while but that doesn’t mean I’m not working! I have a bunch of clients under NDA’s right now, as well as so much work that posting seems to… waste time I could be working? I’m trying to best to learn as much as I can all the time and I really feel like I’m pushing myself as hard as I can.

I hope to post up some of my thesis work in a while, I’m retuning some aspects of my project and sculpting away any free minute I get! Back to work I go… San Francisco is expensive!

I’ve been all over the place since moving to San Francisco, literally and with clients. Projects are at every stage of completion you can imagine at once and trying to keep up means I’ve been forgetting to post up here. I finished another Sword & Board sculpture, the first of a new faction and it came out pretty well.

I went through a bunch of hurdles to finish this one, it’s a new faction from the north and they have fur lined padded armor so these models are going to have to be UV’d to project some padded details and the technical aspect of the fur creation had to be taken care of with this first guy so they all look the same. I played for about a week before ending up with what you see below, it’s what will print best for the fur, and for the padding.

Thesis – 8/6/2013

Time is flying, I’m still trying to get acclimated to all the changes in my life over the past month and at the same time dealing with all kinds of hardships in my art. I suppose it’s just self doubt and the fact that as an artist you can only do so many things at once, it takes time to complete each piece and to improve and it’s a hard wait.

My thesis is coming along, as well as many other projects and I hope to have some good updates soon. I suppose right now I’ll take some time to polish up a few things on my current thesis character and pop a render up here because I’d like to look back at the end and see my process and check for weak areas.

I don’t have any real rhyme or reason while working on this thesis character. I’m trying to build him up all over evenly by adding layer after layer of detail and smaller pieces. Thesis 8/6/2013
